Jahro Parchment ensured Roy Mason celebrated an historic victory in his 500th game as Steeton manager.

Andy Briggs and Parchment scored the goals to end Steeton into the quarter-finals of the West Riding County Cup for the first time in the club’s history.

But boy was it was dramatic as they had to come from behind and also play with ten men for the final 30 minutes as Briggs was sent off.

Mason received a guard of honour from both teams and the match officials – the last piece of charity Steeton got from Railway.

Mick O’Connell’s home side were on the front-foot straightaway.

The red mist descended on Steeton striker Andy Briggs

Joe Crosby, who hit all four in the 4-0 demolition of Worsbrough Bridge on Saturday, rattled the crossbar in the third minute.

Crosby did eventually break the deadlock in the 24th minute to hand Railway a deserved lead with a close range finish and many probably assumed Railway would put their foot down and kill the contest.

That didn’t happen as Steeton equalised instantaneously.

Tom Robinson made the break forward and he slipped in a defence-splitting through ball for Briggs to run onto and score from.

Steeton stunned the home side four minutes into the second half when Parchment got in behind and found the bottom corner.

Tensions soon began to rise and a red card was coming, especially after a brawl a minute or two before Briggs flew into Fatlum Ibrahimi and received a straight red card.

Despite the numerous advantage, Railway failed to make it count and chances were far and far between.

Led by experienced captain Jerry White, Steeton defended solidly and the visitors should have even extended their lead when Kayle Price missed a one-on-one opportunity.

The victory was deserved in the end, and certainly fitting given Mason’s milestone.
