Dave Frecklington thanked young goalkeeper Aiden Smith for answering Frickley Athletic’s eleventh hour SOS call.
Frickley lost stopper Josh Chapman to covid in the morning of the trip to Pontefract Collieries.
After frantic calls, Nostell Miners Welfare goalkeeper Aiden Smith stepped into the breach.
“We wake up this morning and we have no ‘keeper so we’re chasing a ‘keeper and we managed to get one signed on at 11am,” Frecklington told Non League Yorkshire.
“Of all the positions you don’t want to lose a ‘keeper to covid.
“We managed to get Aiden and I thought he did great.
“He wanted to step-up and I thought he was a credit to himself and his family.”
Well done Aiden. I know your mum, dad and all your family are so proud of you. Such a humble family and lovely. You deserve everything you desire. We’ll done Karen and Pete for putting your lives on hold to allow your children to follow their dreams x
