Matty Warburton fired home a second half penalty as leaders FC Halifax Town opened up a four-point lead at the top.
Pete Wild’s surprise package are also now seven games unbeaten.
Halifax were presented with their golden chance with 20 minutes to go as Jamie Allen was hauled down.
Warburton stepped up and put Halifax ahead.
Grimsby, whose bad run continued, failed to hurt their hosts and it was Halifax who were more likely to score again.
Billy Waters was desperately unlucky when Grimsby goalkeeper Max Crocombe’s chance.

Kidderminster Harriers 2-1 Farsley Celtic
Farsley Celtic narrowly went down at FA Cup heroes Kidderminster Harriers.
Farsley enjoyed a dream start against a side who will host West Ham United in a few weeks.
Recent loan signing Jerome Greaves slotted in from close range in the fourth minute.
But the Harriers turned the games on its head with two quick-fire goals early in the second half.
Mark Carrington equalised and Ethan Freemantle hit what turned out to be the winner.
There was to be controversy as Tom Allan was red carded late-on for hauling down Ashley Hemmings, controversial as Harriers’ Geraldo Bajami escaped with a yellow card for the same offence earlier.
