NPL Division One East
Yorkshire Amateur 1-2 Worksop Town
Vaughan Redford shot down brave Yorkshire Amateur with the last minute winner for Worksop Town at Bracken Edge.
Worksop deserved their win but the Ammers were so close to snatching a point after Casey Stewart’s brilliant strike brought them back into it in the second half.
The wild celebrations from Worksop were understandable given the big win puts them firmly back in the race for the top five.
The threadbare Ammers were unable to cope with Worksop in the first half.
Craig Parry has assembled an effective team of giants and their height and physicality was too strong for the Ammers.
Craig Ogilvie and Neil Sibson’s side were bombarded by pressure and the visitors created numerous chances.
Former Frickley Athletic defender Danny Burns eventually made the pressure tell as he headed home after Jack Broadhead headed a corner back across goal.
The Ammers actually had a golden opportunity to go level before as half-time but Ross Duggan put his shot wide after pouncing on Adam Watson’s mistake.
The Leeds-based home side came strong on the hour mark.
Signs of a looming equaliser became appearing.
Midfielder Luke Dean lobbed goalkeeper Seb Malkowski, only for Burns to head off-the-line.
But 60 seconds later, the Ammers punched and hit the target as Stewart sent a low drive into Malkowski’s left-hand bottom corner.
Ammers substitute Nathan Cartman missed a sitter with their only real chance to take the lead.
Worksop went hell for leather in the final few minutes and it paid dividends.
Ammers scrambled two shots off-the-line in an almighty scramble but they could not stop Redford’s blast when the ball dropped to the former Pontefract Collieries hero.
