This week’s Player Profile is someone who has scored one of the best goals Non League Yorkshire has ever seen.
He’s also Selby Town’s Pirlo – who knows how to handle Raheem Sterling – who has occupied the midfield berth for the whole of Christian Fox’s long tenure – this is Charlie Clamp’s Player Profile.

Best mate in football
In football I’d say Ryan Gothard, mates all through school and signed on same day at Selby, also Jordan Snodin and Conor Qualter we all came through Leeds United academy together and playing with Qualtz all through York schoolboys we also signed on the same day at Leeds. Three of us have had some memorable lads holidays together as a teenagers!
Team I support
Sheffield Wednesday unfortunately
Biggest Idol
Probably say Paul Scholes used to absolutely love watching him play and the way he plays.
Biggest Influence
Have to say my dad took me all over the country when I was a kid and never misses a game now.
Career Highlight
It’d have to be earning a professional contract at Leeds United more so as I missed the 1st year of my scholarship through injury we had a hell of a youth team likes of Charlie Taylor and Sam Byram who play in Prem now and most of other lads have gone to have decent careers in the Football League.
Most Memorable Game
Winterton away couple of years ago for Selby. Foxy had dropped me before the game as he does sometimes when he’s been drinking night before! It was 1-1 in the 94th minute I hit a volley from 35 yards to win 2-1 was a massive win at the time as winterton were top and we were up there as well. Another memorable game was playing against Raheem Sterling in his first ever game for Liverpool when I was at Leeds he tore us apart was only 15 16 at the time.
Selby not getting promoted couple of years back when we were top and flying but covid came and null and voided season, also getting relegated from Evo Stik with Harrogate Railway wasn’t a great period either.
Biggest Regret in Football
A bit cringe but not taking my football more seriously as a youngster when leaving Leeds didn’t make the right choices and wasn’t committed enough to stay in full time football.
Funniest moment in Football
Be at Leeds as 1st year Charlie Taylor had just passed his driving test and lads peer pressured Christian Brigg (keeper) who couldn’t drive at all to go take his car and drive it up to training ground. Briggys didn’t really say a lot as a person but for some reason agreed to to do it and everyone in training ground was watching him were in stitches as he was driving it up and curbing it and bumping into stuff. Lucy Ward and Neil Redfearn who looked after us at that time were watching and weren’t too happy, one of them had to be there moments.
First Non League manager
John Deacey at Bradford (Park Avenue)
Non League Debut
Was first league game of season for Bradford (Park Avenue) away at Leamington Spa in Conference North, I was on bench at time and we were three down and John Deacey slung me and big Tommy Corner on at half time don’t think we made much of a difference like but first proper game of man’s football fighting for three points and I loved it.
First Red Card
Unfortunately you normally have to make a tackle to get a red card and that’s something I don’t particularly enjoy doing so never had one.
First and Best Goal
First think it was a tap in for Harrogate home to Prescot, best I scored a volley away at Bolsover for Selby from about 25 yards into top bracket, also the Winterton one. Don’t think I’ve got one on target since then.
What do you want to achieve in football in the future?
First and foremost is to get promoted with Selby Town. I love the club been there for nearly five years now which I didn’t expect to be there this long. Long term wise just enjoying my football until I retire.
Favourite Non League Ground
I like Parkgate as their pitch is normally decent.
