Cable edges Goole nearer to magic 40 point mark

Sam Cable’s first half penalty edged Mike Carmody’s Goole AFC closer to the magic 40 point mark.

Goole are now four points from the milestone, widely regarded as the safety mark.

The key moment of the match came five minutes before half-time when Cable was taken out by goalkeeper Nathan Popple just inside the penalty area.

Popple was red carded, leaving veteran midfielder Paul Grimes to take over in goal.

Cable sent the spot kick down the middle to score his 12th goal of the season.

Goole are next in action when they host Garforth on the 29th.
