Toolstation NCEL Premier Division
Garforth Town manager Paul Marshall is on course to take charge of his landmark 1000th game before the end of the season.
Marshall is only 11 games away from the feat after Garforth’s 3-1 defeat to Penistone Church in the NCEL League Cup last night.
If the schedule remains the same, Garforth’s home clash with ironically Penistone on March 26th will be his 1000th battle.
It means there is plenty of time to organise a long weekend of festivities to mark the occasion.
Legendary figure Marshall, one of the most successful Yorkshire-based Non League managers of the last 20 years, has enjoyed a glittering career in the dugout which began when he took charge of Harrogate Town in 1997.
You might not believe it but Harrogate had no money in those days and he kept them in the old NPL Division One against the odds that season.
His greatest achievement is guiding Harrogate Railway to the FA Cup second round proper in 2002.
As the lowest ranked side ever to reach that stage, Railway played Bristol City in front of the Sky Sports cameras at Station View and narrowly lost 3-1.
Titles followed with Goole AFC and Tadcaster Albion along with a promotion with Pickering Town in 2018.
With Garforth flying high in the NCEL, his 1000th game could be a potential promotion decider too.
