Penistone Church manager Steve Lenthall wants referee Charles Mulhall to rescind the bizarre red card Kieran Ryan received in the 3-1 League Cup win at Garforth Town.
Mr Mulhall claimed substitute Ryan had sworn at him deep into second half injury-time while Penistone lined up to take up a free kick.
Lenthall said the sending-off was blatantly wrong.
“It has put a downer on the result,” Lenthall told Non League Yorkshire.
“I thought we dominated the game throughout.
“I think we just had five minutes of madness where we conceded a sloppy goal.
“We get a free kick on the edge of their box and all of a sudden Kieran gets a red card for supposedly swearing at the referee.
“(Kieran) has told me he hasn’t, he swore at the (Garforth) player.
“The referee says he directed it at him but when we have won a free kick why would Kieran swear at it?
“I think the referee needs to rethink it and I think he has to see sense in it.
“I’d like to think he’s honest.
“We’re honest when we do things wrong and we have to own up to decisions so hopefully he will own up to (the error) but you never know.”
