Danny Barlow has quit Swinton Athletic and rejoined Dodworth Miners Welfare

Prodigal son Danny Barlow has rejoined Dodworth Miners Welfare after a short stint with title rivals Swinton Athletic.

Barlow, the former Penistone Church and Shaw Lane Aquaforce star, shocked the league by leaving his village club Dodworth for Swinton in the summer.

Swinton had been chasing him for a while and the move was one of the league’s most sensational and glamour transfers in recent memory.

Ex-Shaw Lane and Penistone star Danny Barlow helped turn Dodworth into a County Senior League superpower

But he hasn’t been able to hit the prolific goal-scoring heights he reached at all his clubs and the razzmatazz has ended after just 12 appearances and four goals as he has decided to hand his Swinton tracksuit and return to the club he helped turn into a County Senior League superpower.

Barlow quit the semi-pro game several years ago to play for Dodworth and he was been at the centre of their rise from Division Two to the top of the Premier Division.

His comeback gives Dodworth huge belief as they look to push Swinton off top spot.

Third-placed Dodworth are currently five points behind them with a game-in-hand.

Signing someone like Barlow gives Dodworth a major edge as the forward is someone who can produce moments of magic and match-winning goals out of thin air.

Dodworth are away at Wombwell Main on Saturday.
