New Maltby Main chief John Stancliffe says his early coronation allows him more time to prepare for next season.
Stancliffe’s position as interim manager was meant to be reviewed at the end of the season.
However, Maltby decided to rubber stamp his ascension to the throne last week.
“I was just told (the club) were happy with the work I had done in the four weeks,” Stancliffe told Non League Yorkshire.
“They felt that the performances had improved along with the players’ attitude.
“They felt going forward for next season and with the plans I have for the team that I needed to be confirmed for next season so I can start getting those plans in place.
“I like to plan and I want to be acting on my plans for next season once as this season ends.
“Moving forward the club have backed me with my future plans and I was delighted when the chairman (spoke to me and confirmed I had the role on a permanent basis).”
Seventh-placed Maltby are well-placed for a push for the top six and Stancliffe is hopeful.
“I would like to finish as strong as possible and pick up as many points as possible,” he said.
“In an ideal world I’d like us to finish in the top six.
“If we don’t we’ll only have ourselves to blame.
“We have as good a chance as anybody in the league if we play how we can play.
“We have some tough games as we have Penistone twice, Garforth, Winterton coming up.
“So we’re going to be playing the teams looking for promotion and Winterton who are looking for the top six so we have a tough finish.
“But if we play to the standards and levels I know we can it should be in our hands.”
