Wardle the hero for Houghton with last minute penalty

Houghton Main hero Louis Wardle

Louis Wardle held his nerve to score a dramatic penalty Houghton Main snatched a last minute 3-2 win over top five hopefuls Ecclesfield Red Rose 1915.

Matt Semley and ex-Barnsley youngster Wardle had given Houghton a two-goal lead by half-time.

However, the walls caved in and Ecclesfield fought back through defender Harry Hurst and Jamie Russell.

Wardle then made himself the hero.

Stocksbridge Park Steels Reserve became the latest side to stunt Wakefield AFC’s promotion push as Richard Openshaw’s men claimed a 1-1 draw.

The Steels took the lead as well.

Owen Kirwan equalised for Wakey.

The second half was a bit of a nightmare as Billy Mole’s chipped penalty went over the crossbar.

Defender James Morris then received a straight red card.

Jake Ford’s double steered Swinton Athletic to their 2-1 defeat of High Green Villa.

Oughtibridge War Memorial edged out Darren Hepworth’s Hepworth United in a 2-1 win.

Jubilee Sports and Sheffield Town battled out a goal-less draw.
