National North
John Askey has been handed the York City job on a permanent basis after a successful spell as interim boss.
Since replacing Steve Watson, former National League title-winning boss Askey has guided York from no man’s land to being strong play-offs contenders.
The ex-Macclesfield Town and Port Vale chief has also taken them to the FA Trophy semi-finals.
Askey told York’s website: “I’m looking forward to it. I think this is a fantastic club and hopefully I can do the position justice.
“It was a very easy decision, coming into the club I got on very well with the players and the staff. It is a good challenge and hopefully I can get the club back to where it needs to be.
“We need to plan for what might be, or what might not be. We don’t know what league we will be in but it’s important we sat down and said where we wanted to go and what we wanted to do and players we wanted to bring in.”
