NPL Division One East
Craig Ogilvie says Yorkshire Amateur want to strengthen and push on next season.
The Ammers have had a steady start to life in the Northern Premier League and now with a taste for Step 4, Ogilvie says his club are preparing to mount a challenge at the top of the Division.
“Like any season I want to win a league,” Ogilvie told Non League Yorkshire.
“I don’t want to get to the play-offs, you aim to win the league so that’ll be in our minds when we look at recruitment.
“We’ll be looking to improve on what we have.
“Off-the-field is getting better in how we run things on a match-day.
“We have gone from the NCEL to the Northern Premier League and that’s a level up in terms of the off-the-field work.
“I think the club as a whole is in the best position it has been in for a long time.
“This season we’re going to finish mid-table but next season we’ll be looking to progress and give it a good push.”
The Ammers’ plan for the current season was always to consolidate.
This was achieved some time ago and Ogilvie believes it has been a steady campaign.
“As I keep saying, it has been a learning curve for a lot of people, myself included and I know (Neil Sibson) feels the same way,” he said.
“I think we go into next season with a bit more confidence as we know what to expect and we can plan better.
“It hasn’t all been lost this year.
“A lot of people were possibly surprised that we didn’t go out and bring eight or nine players.
“Everyone had this interpretation that we were going to spend a load of brass.
“I’ve been saying all season that the lads (who got us up) deserved to have a chance at this standard of football.
“The lads have done well and it has been a good opening season for us (in the NPL).
“The key word now going into next season is progression.
“We’re not going to go up or down so it is now about planting seeds and planning for next season,” he said.
“It is about identifying targets early doors and hopefully do our business as early as as we can in preparation for pre-season.”
