Liversedge set for biggest week in club’s history – Rimmington

Liversedge manager Jonathan Rimmington

Jonathan Rimmington admits Liversedge are entering the “biggest week in the club’s history”.

Ahead of the pulsating showdown at challengers Marske United tomorrow, ‘Sedge are three wins away from clinching the title and securing promotion to the NPL Premier Division for the first ever time.

The size of the potential achievement is huge, especially considering ‘Sedge were bottom of the NCEL Premier Division table for most of Rimmington’s first season in 2015.

But the task is far from easy as there is the Marske clash which is followed by tough tests against Brighouse Town and Worksop Town.

“It is 100% the biggest week I have been involved in as Liversedge manager,” Rimmington told Non League Yorkshire.

“I don’t get too high and low with Liversedge.

“Most of the time it was low because we didn’t have the resources to compete so I never got heated up about it.

“We used to get beat a lot.

“Now the boot is on the other foot and it is unbelievable.

“If you had said three years ago we’d be in this position it would have been unimaginable.

“Before we started this project, who would have thought Liversedge would be where we are now?

“I’ll be honest, this week is right up there as the biggest week in the club’s history.

“That FA Cup weekend in 2004; I don’t want to take anything away from that because Eugene Lacy’s team was a good team and they got to second in the Counties (in 2005).

“But Liversedge have never been this high (in the pyramid).”

Leaders ‘Sedge can afford to draw with Marske tomorrow as although they are level on points, their goals difference is superior.

A win would leave them needing three more points so clearly Marske are the team who must win.

Rimmington says ‘Sedge won’t be playing for the draw.

“We’re going there to try and win the game,” he said.

“We can’t go there and be negative.

“If we do it will come back and bite us.

“We have to go there and be positive.

“We do need to win this game but if we don’t lose, we’re in good position.

“But then again we have Brighouse on Monday and Worksop away. There’s no gimmes.

“Marske have Stockton away on Monday.

“There’ll be more twists and turns after Saturday.

“Brighouse won’t want us to win the league and I’m sure Stockton won’t want them to win the league.

“So there’s two massive games on Monday.

“If anyone wins on Saturday, it doesn’t mean to say they will win the league.

“If someone wins on Saturday, they could lose on Monday and it could be be back to where we were.”

Four coaches full of excited ‘Sedge fans are set to make the journey to Marske.

Seven years ago, ‘Sedge were lucky to take double figures to away games so it is amazing aspect of their rise up the pyramid.

“It is staggering and unbelievable what has happened to the club,” he said.

“It shows what can happen to a community if a team is doing well.”
