NPL Division One East Round-Up (2)
Lewis Dennison scored one of the most dramatic goals in Bridlington Town history as his last minute penalty fired them to safety and gave outgoing boss Brett Agnew the perfect send-off.
The 3-2 win over Dunston at Queensgate probably had more drama than a BBC drama.
Brid had to win due to Sheffield’s victory at Pontefract Collieries, and with seven minutes remaining Dunston equalised to seemingly condemn Agnew’s side to the third-bottom play-off spot.
Having fallen behind in the first half, Brid levelled on the stroke of half-time through Danny Earl.
Earl then put Brid in command on the hour.
The last ten minutes were certainly epic.
Dunston broke hearts initially with their equaliser.
Brid were then awarded a penalty in the 87th minute – only for the referee to change his mind and award a corner.
Fast forward 120 seconds later and Brid were handed a spot kick for real and Dennison displayed nerves of ultimate steel to smash his side to safety.
Ossett United drew 1-1 at promotion-chasing Marske United.
James Walshaw gave them the lead.
