Donavan Cotton wants to land the vacant Houghton Main manager’s post on a permanent basis.
Interim chief Cotton is odds-on favourite for the job having led Houghton to four straight wins since the exit of Nathan Simms.
Cotton confirmed his aspirations to be the Houghton boss next season, but also said he was actively searching for an assistant.
“You’d have to ask the club about that,” Cotton told Non League Yorkshire.
“I’d like the job, but I can’t do it on my own.
“I need someone at my side.”
On Saturday, Cotton’s magic hands conjured up the best result of his reign so far as Houghton stunned local rivals Dodworth Miners Welfare in a 4-3 victory.
The win was pulled off with a host of youngsters in the side and Cotton is excited for the future.
“I think our average age is about 22 so I think we can only get better for next season,” he said.
“I think next season we need to be looking to finish in the top half.
“We have to keep building.
(Against Dodworth) we had a 17-year-old called Finn (Durkin) who scored his first goal for us so the future looks good.
“If we can keep this bunch together, next year we could be top half and the year after we could finish higher.
“We just have to build.”
