Halifax’s promotion dream ends

National League

FC Halifax Town 1-2 Chesterfield

FC Halifax Town’s promotion dream is over after Paul Cook’s Chesterfield overcame their recent inconsistent form to claim a spot in the play-offs semi-finals.

Danny Rowe header in the 19th minute from Jeff King’s corner paved the path for Chesterfield.

Former Halifax defender King haunted his old club midway through the second half as he hit the second goal with a shot from distance.

Halifax still had hope in the last 20 minutes as they immediately pulled a goal back.

Matt Stenson’s tap-in breathed into Halifax.

However, Chesterfield held out to book their date at Solihull Moors on Sunday.
