Popular midfielder Dave Syers has signed a new deal with Farsley Celtic.
Syers had quite a season as he started off as club captain before stepping in as interim manager after the dismissal of Neil Ross.
After the appointment of Russ Wilcox, he has been player/coach.
Syers played for the original Farsley during the club’s last season in 2010 before moving onto play in the Football League for the likes of Bradford City and Doncaster Rovers.
He came back in 2018 and helped them win promotion to the National North.
Syers told Farsley’s website: “It was an automatic decision as long as the club wanted me.
“I want to finish my career at the club, so as long as I’m still playing I want it to be here.”
Looking back at the campaign, he said: “Taking on the responsibility was quite easy as I’ve been telling the lads what to do for years anyway.
“Acting as interim manager and temporary assistant manager was more of a challenge based on the squad we had available at the time and the added time pressures involved.
“From Christmas until February, when Russ came, was one of the toughest periods in my career and I’m glad to have put it behind us and can be looking forward with more optimism.
“Last season is best left forgotten as far as I’m concerned. We know that on our budget we have to have a small squad and hope we get lucky with injuries.
“Unfortunately that wasn’t the case and on top of everything else that happened, the main positive is that we’re still in this division.”
