Wing wizard Rob Youhill is an outstanding choice to be the new Harrogate Railway under 19s manager, according to Mick O’Connell.
Youhill will be signing for the Rail’ first team but the attacker is winding down his playing career.
O’Connell says he is thrilled Youhill is taking on the challenge of running their newly-formed under 19s.
“We felt there was a bridge to gap in terms of our junior section and our reserves,” O’Connell told Non League Yorkshire.
“We also felt there was nothing in the local area for kids over 16 like under 18 teams.
“We decided to create an under 19s team as a development team and we have had a lot of interest in it.
“Rob’s coming to the end of his playing career and we wanted to keep him at the club.
“We had a chat and I couldn’t believe how positive he was about.
“He really wants to get stuck into it.
“He’s a very good coach and he’s very professional in everything he does.
“In terms of a development coach he’s absolutely perfect for what we want.”
Youhill has a long line of brilliant mentors, in particular former Railway boss Billy Miller, and O’Connell envisages the winger having a future in men’s football management.
“He’s a future manager in the making,” he said.
“He’s a great lad and a character.
“What took me back was how professional he was and how meticulous he is.
“He wants everything to be done right – his sessions, everything.
“If I’m not doing very well by Christmas you may see Rob Youhill in the dugout!
“He has all the right attributes to be a good manager.”
