Selby Town 1-0 North Ferriby
A composed finish from star striker Liam Flanagan gifted Selby Town a great start to pre-season and victory over NCEL Premier Division new-boys North Ferriby.
Flanagan’s winner came in the first half.
Both sides are tipped to do well in their respective leagues but not much can be read into their line-ups and performances in this encounter.
Trialists were aplenty and there were notable absentees as well.
Ferriby used the most players, fielding different teams in both halves.
That’s not to say it wasn’t competitive as the crowd was treated to goal-mouth action at both ends.
Ferriby’s best first chance came via Danny East whose dangerously-positioned free kick ended up well over the crossbar.
Flanagan then nipped in with his goal.
Ferriby brought on their second battalion at the interval – with former Glasshoughton Welfare striker Lewis Stephens being one of the men coming on.
Ferriby were unfortunate not to equalise as the second half wore on.
They had one shot cleared off-the-line while Selby’s youthful goalkeeper Jody Barford made two brave but brilliant saves to ensure the home side were victorious.
