FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round
Ash Connor says Golcar United’s FA Cup tie at Stocksbridge Park Steels is a huge moment in the club’s history.
Golcar, one of the region’s most progressive clubs, were playing on a park field several years ago.
Now they’re set to take part in the world’s oldest cup competition.
“It is a massive for the club and a proud moment,” Connor told Non League Yorkshire.
“For myself, Gav, Joe Skarz and the players it is a massive achievement for us.
“When we first set out (on the journey) I remember the club president Ian Whitehead that it was an ambition of his for the club to play in the FA Cup.
“It is a big achievement for the club and one we’re really proud of.
“I always say it all the time, this is why (we re-developed the ground to go up the leagues).
“This is reason is why we went from being an amateur to a semi-professional team – for things like that.
“We’re all looking forward to it.
“The FA Cup is massive.”
Connor says his men face a tough challenge in Stocksbridge.
“I would say we’re underdogs,” he said.
“They are a league higher but we’ll give it our all.
“I know they will be a very good side and it will be a real test.”
