FA Vase First Qualifying Round
Handsworth 3-0 Goole AFC
Handsworth eased into the next round of the FA Vase with a comfortable victory over Goole AFC at Olivers Mount
Goole, missing several players such as goalkeeper Mat Zaniewski and forwards Sam Cable and Luke Williams, started brightly by getting into some good areas but they faded after the home side gained the lead on the half-hour mark.
It was a poor goal from Goole’s point of view to concede as a corner was floated into the six-yard box and Sam Smith was able to force the ball home.
Handsworth were dominant in the second half as Goole failed to pose a threat.
The second goal was avoidable as well as the visitors didn’t deal with a left-wing cross from which Anthony Mackie scored from.
Substitute and new signing Alex King sealed the win with a well-taken effort.
Midfielder Ollie Russon was unlucky not to score for Goole in the dying minutes when his shot came back off the post.
What They Said
Handsworth joint manager Louis Axcell
“I think in the end we were quite comfortable.
“Goole started quite well but we took the sting out of it (with the goal).
“I was a little disappointed in the first half as we had a lot of the ball but we didn’t really capitalise on that. There were some sloppy errors.
“Other than that, we grew into the game and second half we have dominated massively.
“A good result on a hot day.”
