A new striker made an instant impression for Handsworth at the weekend after arriving on a dual-registration deal.
Brighouse Town attacker Alex King scored Handsworth’s third in the 3-0 FA Vase win over Goole AFC, crowning an excellent debut leaving Louis Axcell delighted.
“He’s still involved with them as he’s on a dual-registration,” joint manager Axcell said.
“He’s featured relatively regularly for Brighouse over the last 18 months.
“I spoke to Powelly and I’d allow to thank him for allowing us to take Alex on a dual-registration.
“We have Leon Howarth out with a dislocated toe so we needed a forward player and he’s started well with a goal.”
Handsworth head to free-scoring Eccleshill United this evening, seeking to claim a third win of the campaign.
Handsworth have won two out of three in the league and won in the FA Cup and Vase.
Axcell says Handsworth have to be pleased but he admits they are haunted by the 6-0 defeat to Emley.
“Overall a positive (start) but I still can’t get over the dire display against Emley,” he said.
“After two really good results at two of the toughest away trips we’ll make this season and getting six points without conceding to perform like we did against Emley was a shambles.
“It was embarrassing for me and the rest of the lads.
“Glossing over that, looking at the whole picture and where we are, yes it has been a positive start.
“We’re playing some good stuff and we’re looking settled as a squad.”
