Murray hits winner as Stocksbridge win again in FA Cup

Stocksbridge Park Steels have won again in the FA Cup after taking a scalp in higher league Atherton Collieries thanks to a late 2-1 victory.

The Steels waited 11 years for one win in the world’s oldest cup competition and three have come at once and it has got the club dreaming of show-piece fixtures – whilst also bringing in the priceless prize money.

Ian Richards’ side had to come from behind as Atherton went ahead through Aaron Smith in the 55th minute.

Stocksbridge responded 12 minutes later as Ross Goodwin pounced.

Elliot Murray then headed home the winner after latching onto Tomas Poole’s cross with just two minutes left.

Pontefract Collieries staged a second half fight-back to bring Charnock Richard to West Yorkshire for a replay on Tuesday night.

The Colls were a man down due to Jack Shepherd’s red card and 2-0 down at half-time.

Charnock were reduced to ten men as well at the interval and goals from Gav Allott and Jake Picton secured a 2-2 draw.

Jake Cassidy and John Johnston scored to overturn a half-time deficit to earn Guiseley a 2-1 win over Avro.

Liversedge won by the same score-line against Glossop North End.

Nathan Cartman and Shiraz Khan hit the target.

Harry Green hit a hat-trick in Whitby Town’s 5-0 beating of Bishop Auckland.

Aaron Haswell and Marcus Giles also netted.

Penistone Church took the lead at North East giants Shildon but they were defeated 2-1 after the hosts scored a last minute winner.

Ryan Johnson struck for Church.

Goole AFC lost 1-0 to Prescot Cables.
