Dramatic finish as Johnson fires Avenue to first win of campaign

National North Round-Up

Bradford (Park Avenue)

Oli Johnson dramatically fired Bradford (Park Avenue) to their long-awaited first win of the season during the stunning finale in the 2-1 defeat of Curzon Ashton.

Avenue were staring down the barrel of another defeat with just six minutes to go.

That’s when Reece Staunton’s cross was turned into the net by Will Longbottom.

60 seconds later and Johnson had hit the winner to provide the lift-off Avenue have been waiting for.

Russ Wilcox’s Farsley Celtic struggled for away wins last season and now they’ve won again on the road after putting two past high-flying Kidderminster Harriers without reply.

Tom Allan and Jimmy Spencer were on the score-sheet for Farsley.

Lewis Maloney, Kieran Weledji, Kieran Burton Michael Coulson and Ash Jackson scored in Scarborough Athletic’s 5-0 smashing of Kettering Town.

National League

FC Halifax Town were denied another win after Maidstone United scored in the last minute to rescue a 1-1 draw.

Mani Dieseruvwe appeared to have scored the winner for Halifax.

Alex Hurst netted the only goal of York City’s victory over Torquay United.
