EV2 Sheffield & Hallamshire County Senior League Premier Division
There’s no beating around the bush from Darren Hepworth: Hepworth United want to win the title.
The transformed club were reprieved from relegation last season and now they’re flying high as joint leaders after winning seven of their opening nine games.
“We have had a really good start to the season,” Hepworth told Non League Yorkshire.
“I said to you going back to before the start of the season that we were looking for top four or five.
“We want to win it.
“That’s the ambition now.
“That’s no disrespect to the other teams in the league.
“But because of the start we have made we have that ambition and we have the hunger.
“I have a great group of lads and there’s really togetherness and belief.”
Although he is backing his men, Hepworth adds that his men aren’t the complete article.
“I knew top four or five was realistic (in the summer),” he said.
“I knew I had a good group of players, ability-wise but you never know how quickly they will gel.
“This is still a young team and we’re still getting used to each other, getting used to me.
“We’re still growing and there is still a lot of improvement to make.”
The visit of Penistone Church Reserves kicks off a huge two weeks as joint leaders Dodworth are up next week.
“We have Penistone (today), Dodworth next week, they are big games,” he said.
“If you’re looking at the table they are big games.
“We should get good crowds at both and they’ll be entertainment.”
