Sheffield & Hallamshire County Senior League Premier Division
Wombwell Main 3-2 Sheffield Town
Joe Campbell scored league leaders Wombwell Main’s dramatic winner with effectively the last kick of the game to round off a spectacular comeback by Terry Simon’s men.
Wombwell were staring down the barrel of their first defeat since November after conceding twice in the first half.
Sheffield, technically arguably the best side in the Premier Division, were all over their hosts.
Man of the match Hotheyfa Gadour ran the show for Sheffield and he dominated the first half proceedings.
Poor defending from a free kick led to Robert Seck pouncing from close range.
The ball was then lost in the middle of the park for the second goal and Abdulrahman Alghamdi blasted home.
The race for the title is so close and Wombwell were seemingly going to lose ground to their many rivals who have games-in-hand.
Star striker Ryan Wingrove breathed life into Wombwell literally on the stroke of half-time.
He broke away and netted from close range.
Head honcho Simon had a trick shot up his sleeve at the interval as Bailey Cowsell was introduced and he added the spark Wombwell needed.
Main began winning midfield battles and the pressure slowly built.
Eventually Gadhafi Kiwanuka crossed and the unmarked Aaron Tate showed all the useful knowledge he learnt off watching-on mentor Danny Frost by heading home at the far post.
The remaining 20 minutes were end-to-end. Sheffield had one chance cleared off-the-line in middle of two other good opportunities.
Wombwell caused issues from corners and had plenty of possession in dangerous areas.
Ultimately it was decided in the last ten seconds.
Cowsell’s corners were troublesome from the moment he took his first and his final effort was superb.
The ball sailed into the six-yard-box and Campbell leapt like a salmon and although Sheffield appeared to clear off-the-line, the assistant referee gave the goal.
That’s when the celebrations began.
