Albion doing well to be in top half

Albion Sports manager Kulwinder Sandhu says he lacks strength in depth

Kulwinder Sandhu believes Albion Sports have done really well to hold a top half place in the Toolstation NCEL Premier Division so far this season.

Albion are ninth and only ten points off top spot after 15 games, despite not being able to name a consistent side each week because of injuries.

That theme continued on Wednesday night before the 3-1 defeat to local rivals Thackley when full-back Connor Erangey broke down in the warm-up.

Sandhu told Non League Yorkshire: “When we have a few injuries or suspensions I don’t have the strength in depth.

“On Wednesday night, I had the captain James Firth missing along with Lewis Morgan, Danny Cunningham and Matt Mathers, who hasn’t kicked a ball all season.

“They’re four regular starters and we need their experience.

“I said at the start of the season if we finish halfway then it would be a good season.

“I think we are punching above our weight this season because we lack experience as a lot of our players have stepped up to this level.

“Sometimes we can beat the better teams and then lose to the poorer teams so it has been a learning curve for a lot of the players.”

Sandhu was disappointed with the defeat to Thackley at Throstle Nest.

Albion began strongly, but after Asif Hussain missed a spot kick, Thackley came into it and walked away with three points.

He added: “I thought we started the game off really well and should have scored early doors.

“We missed a penalty, but I don’t think we played well from there.

“We huffed and puffed and didn’t have a cutting edge.

“I just thought because it was a local derby against Thackley that we would do better than what we did.”

Albion visit Parkgate tomorrow.

Non League Yorkshire’s charity tournament takes place tonight (Friday). The event is scheduled to finish at 10pm and you can pay on the door. Email info@nonleagueyorkshire.com or click HERE for further information.
