Billy Miller admits that the response that his Tadcaster Albion players have given after the long break caused by the December floods has been fantastic.
Tadcaster, set for their crunch clash at second-placed Bridlington Town, have won all four of their matches since returning to action after a month off. The wins include the brilliant victory over title rivals Worksop Town and the League Cup win at Parkgate.
“It was really difficult when the first floods came round because we were on a brilliant run,” he said. “We had gone to Handsworth and won, beat Worksop, beat Thackley and then we had a break where we went halfway to Sunderland and it didn’t happen.
“We were going on the Tuesday night and it was on, off, then on. We ended up getting beat when we did play. From then we had the big break and we played Parkgate in between, but credit to the lads. We have trained every single week and we have not missed any session and they have worked really hard in them and I think that showed when we scored in the last minute at Pontefract.”
Miller also hopes that his team can put a smile on the faces of Tadcaster residents, who have endured a heart-breaking two months.
“I was in Tadcaster on Boxing Day as a friend of mine who works for the Rubicon charity organisation came up from London and I went over to see him,” he added.
“The togetherness in Tadcaster itself was absolutely second to none. As a town it deserves a pick-me-up after what happened.
“To see it at the football club was devastating. To walk down Tadcaster high street and see people’s houses was even more devastating.
“I just hope we can bring a bit of joy to the town. We had a lot of people there at Pontefract and I hope we have given them some respite.”
