Integro Doodson League Cup
Farsley Celtic 1-1p Scarborough Athletic
Steve Kittrick got some joy at last as Scarborough Athletic manager after his side won on penalties at Throstle Nest.
Joe Lamplough’s successful kick in the shootout ended Scarborough’s incredible 12-match winless run which stretches back to the beginning of December.
The Seadogs will hope they can build on the positive to ensure they do not get dragged into the relegation dogfight. They were straight on the front foot at Farsley as within 12 minutes, striker Tom Corner had scored from a corner.
The former Ossett Albion striker also watched a header cannon back off the crossbar.
Last season’s League Cup runners-up Farsley eventually managed to mount a response. Lewis Osbourne twice sent warning flares at the visitors.
The pressure told when Farsley were awarded a penalty, converted by Lewis Nightingale.
Farsley continued to press and Scarborough were relieved when the final whistle went as goalkeeper Nick Draper had just denied Paul Walker from point blank range.
The shootout was evenly matched for the first five spot kicks. Draper denied Nightingale and Aiden Savory, while Farsley stopper Jake Lofthouse foiled Jamie Forrester and Ryan Blott.
Farsley’s Ross Daly sent his effort out of the ground in sudden death, leaving Lamplough to send the Seadogs through.
