Westella VIP manager Leon Sewell and his side nearly won at AFC Mansfield
Leon Sewell wants to see Westella VIP back up a heavy win in midweek when they entertain Rossington Main at the Euronics Ground.
Westella recorded their first win in five matches with the 7-1 thrashing of Worsbrough Bridge.
Winning one or two and then losing a few has been the story of Westella’s first season in the NCEl.
“We’re consistently inconsistent, if that makes sense,” quipped Sewell.
“We’re a bit like a yo-yo, up and down. If you look at our results at the beginning of the season, we won at Eccleshill and then lost four or five on the bounce.
“Beginning of this year, we beat Eccleshill at home and then went to AFC Mansfield and picked up a point. Up until Tuesday we have since picked up a few defeats.
“We’re not a million miles off and I’m a big believer in keep trying. The lads do it for the love of the game, they don’t get anything for it.
“We have to keep until the last game. Tuesday was a worthy win for us, a game we needed to get a win under our belts and some much needed confidence having lost four on the bounce.
“By no means least was it the perfect performance but we won at all costs and that’s all that matters when you are rushing around travelling over an hour.
“Tuesdays result will only mean something if we can pick up another three points against Rossington.”
Westella are well away from the drop zone so that is not a problem facing them for the final throes of the season.
Looking back over the campaign, Sewell added: “We haven’t got a problem scoring goals, its just keeping them out.
“I think we have only kept two clean sheets this season. If you were to look at our league record last season, I think we only conceded 25-30 goals.
“But we’re coming up against more prolific strikers and there’s no denying that. I think I said at Christmas that the school report would say B+, now I would say C-, but there is still a long way to go.
“It is not a bad start to life in the NCEL. Our main aim was to consolidate and personally I would have liked to have been in the top ten, simply on the pure basis that we could enter the FA Cup.
“If it doesn’t happen, it doesn’t, but as long as we consolidate and learn from our mistakes then we can’t complain.”
