Mick Jones is a popular man at Garforth Town
Mick Jones has won the hearts and minds of everyone involved at Garforth Town, according to Adrian Costello.
Jones has become a key cog of the Garforth side which has been rebuilt by Costello since he was appointed by the club’s owners in November.
The former Selby Town defender also led the team’s tribute to well-known Garforth supporter Ralph Backhouse last month.
“He is superb and he shares the same belief as I do that we’re all in this together,” Costello said.
“He’s gels the team and he does things for the club such as when Ralph (Backhouse) died recently. You saw us all out in those shirts saying ‘one of our own”.
“He went out and bought them and made them. He did everything.”

Garforth’s poor form has continued since the New Year and their current winless run stretches to six matches, with the visit of Clipstone looming tomorrow.
That run consists of five defeats and one draw. All those losses have been by the odd goal so Costello believes the corner will be turned.
“There has been some good performances, even though we haven’t been getting the results,” he said.
“We picked up a point at Nostell and then narrowly to Handsworth, narrowly lost to Cleethorpes Town, narrowly lost to Albion Sports.
“We have been playing all the top sides and losing narrowly. We played Liversedge, who certainly won’t be at the bottom of the league at the end of the season, and won 2-1. That was a good performance.
“We keep saying to the lads that at some point we’re going to say ‘great performance and great win’. Things need to turn round for us and turn round quick. We need some luck.
“On our day we can perform and compete with anybody.”
I think the managment need to recognise that Garforth are in trouble, teams are catching them and they have to take responsibility for poor signings. Signing and Playing lads who are no better than Sunday pub league drains the confidence of those who can play. Points were lost early in his reign by persevering with players who were clearly not good enough and it must affect the confidence of the rest of the team.
Beating Brigg & Liversedge when they were both bottom of the league at the time isn’t good enough. Everybody’s improving bar garforth, I’d say they need at least 3 wins for safety, but 2 wins out of twenty league games since he took over is shocking. Your asking for 3 wins with 8 games left, not forgetting the games in hand for other teams below them. I hope they can start today beating clipstone today they need points and quickly.
