Dual-registered striker Marcus Edwards made an instant impact for Shaw Lane Aquaforce by scoring the last minute winner against Rugby.
Aquaforce’s title hopes were in jeopardy during a game full of twists and turns, but the dramatic victory was made even sweeter with the news that Stocksbridge held runaway leaders Stafford Rangers to a draw.
Shaw Lane still have to keep winning, but they can now climb as high as one point behind Stafford.
At Frickley Athletic’s Westfield Lane, Shaw Lane hit the front-foot early-on after Rhys Meynell scored from close range. The lead was immediately cancelled out as Kevin Thornton equalised for Rugby.
Rugby stunned Aquaforce midway through the second half when David Kolodynski headed home.
With time running out, Lee Bennett equalised and Edwards sparked scenes of jubilation in the dying seconds with a well-struck strike. Albion Sports forward Edwards has been dual-registered with Shaw Lane since the beginning of March.
