Glasshoughton Welfare 1-4 AFC Mansfield
Glasshoughton were unable to do neighbours and champions-elect Hemsworth a favour in their clash with second place AFC Mansfield at Leeds Road.
Hemsworth would have been crowned champions had Glasshoughton managed to either win or draw against a Mansfield side that looks primed to secure the second promotion spot.
Hemsworth will now have wait until Saturday in their title quest, unless the league board decide to hand them the three points over the Lincoln debacle at Thursday’s board meeting.
Mansfield did their damage in the first half. Glasshoughton’s were susceptible to the ball over-the-top and after several chances, Craig Mitchell pulled away and scored.
Bizarrely Mansfield’s goalkeeper Jason White struck the second goal close to half-time. An extremely harsh penalty was given for handball against Connor Rollinson before White rolled up and confidently converted his second penalty of the season past Welfare goalkeeper Darren Shirt.
Mansfield bided their time in search of the killer third goal. Two quick-fire strikes with 20 minutes remaining from Jake Park and then Dean Rick completed the victory.
Leon Cusworth was the scorer of Glasshoughton’s late consolation.
