Glasshoughton Welfare joint manager Craig Wilkinson is leaving nothing to chance when he heads to Thackley for the second time tomorrow.

Glasshoughton travelled to Thackley last week for the League Cup fourth round tie, but it was postponed at 7pm because of a waterlogged pitch.

Wilkinson, Simon Houghton and Mike Brearley did not get there anyway as the latter’s car broke down near Elland Road. The trio ended up stood in a bush before getting towed back to Barnsley.

“There is one for sure, I won’t be going in Mike Brearley’s car again,” quipped Wilkinson.

“Obviously we got stuck coming off the M1 onto the M621 to go into Leeds. There was me, Simon and the left-back stood on a grass verge for half-an-hour.

“I’ll probably play it safe and take my own car this time.”

Wilkinson and Houghton are struggling for bodies for the cup clash. Josh Morley and Del Pollock are definitely ruled out, but Wilkinson has promised that Welfare will give their best shot.

“It is the last chance of doing something this season, but it has probably come at the wrong time,” he said.

“We picked up two injuries (against Mansfield) and there’s not a chance that they’ll be right for tomorrow.

“We are going to put out the best and what we can, but it will be difficult. We’ll be definitely underdogs as they are in the Division above us, but there’s nothing to lose and that’s what I’ll say to the lads I take there.

“I’ll say ‘go out and enjoy it’ because there’s no pressure on them.”
