Going nowhere: New manager Rob Hunter sold his vision for Garforth Town to Mark Simpson in seconds
Rob Hunter’s faith in him was a key reason behind Mark Simpson’s decision to sign on the dotted line for Garforth Town.
The exciting young striker put his signature on an NCEL registration form last night – news which will be greeted with euphoria by the club’s supporters as Simpson is extremely popular on the terraces.
“Rob and the club has made me want to re-sign for Garforth,” Simpson told Non League Yorkshire.
“About a month ago Rob rang me to say that if I stayed, I would be a key player for him.
“He sold it to me straightaway. The club is also one of the best to play for in this league so that’s basically why I’m staying.”
Simpson originally joined Garforth in November 2014 from Nostell and he quickly became a key component of then-manager Graham Nicholas’ side.
He was the club’s leading goalscorer when he followed Nicholas to Ossett Town last season, a move that lasted just over a month. He returned to Garforth, but was unable to recapture the same kind of form.
Simpson is the second player to be confirmed by Garforth this summer. The arrival of utility man James Beaston was revealed on Sunday.

Garforth have since announced the return of midfielder Nathan Dwyer. Ex Guiseley and Harrogate Railway man Dwyer played for the Miners during the 2012/13 crisis season.
Garforth kick off their pre-season schedule at Eccleshill United tomorrow afternoon (kick 2.30pm).
