A host of Garforth Town legends are turning out to remember the life of Miners fan Ralph Backhouse at the end of this month.

Ralph, who was a well known person in the community, passed away suddenly earlier this year. Garforth’s players wore t-shirts which spelt out #oneofourown during the minute’s silence at the club’s next match.

He was someone who never criticised players and always backed them 100% as long as they gave that in return.

How well respected he was by current and former Town players is shown by the overwhelming positive response by those who have been asked to play. Even those who are on holiday on the day of the game have said they are “honoured” to have been asked.

Players confirmed to be playing include Brett Renshaw, Darren Kelly, Lee Connor, Jamie Price, Andy Rowan, Duncan Bray and Ben Hunter. More will be revealed in the coming days.

The charity match, on Sunday 28th August at the J.S White Community Stadium is against local team Bird in Hand Rangers, will raise money for the Yorkshire Cancer Centre Appeal.

Kick off is at 2pm and the admission cost is £3.
