2016 has been a brilliant year for Liversedge

For the right reasons 2016 is likely to go down as a major turning point in the history of Liversedge.

Considering how the year started, ‘Sedge’s fortunes have changed drastically for the better. ‘Sedge were rock bottom at the beginning of March and hadn’t played at home for over 100 games because of major pitch problems.

Helped by a grant from Hyundai to repair the pitch, ‘Sedge started playing again and they easily avoided relegation by taking 32 points from the remaining 51 available points.

‘Sedge have just kicked on and going into Christmas they are seventh after an excellent start to the campaign under manager Jonathan Rimmington, who has already started planning for next season.

“The club’s president Bob Gawthorpe told me last week that the great escape last season was the club’s greatest feat,” Rimmington said.

“Those three months were just remarkable in terms in how we were able to turn it around.

“Bob also said that this season has been the club’s best season in ten years.

“We’re doing really well and people forget that we’re doing it on a shoestring.

“Overall it has been a great year. The pitch crisis galvanised everyone, especially the players who have consistently remained loyal to the club.

“We’re a tight knit group and no-one wants to leave. There is interest back in the club now. We have a few new volunteers and it is now a case of building for next season, as well as trying to finish as we can.”
