Nine man Liversedge dramatically rescued a point with a last gasp goal to earn a 2-2 draw at Athersley Rec.

Joe Walton gave ‘Sedge the lead nine minutes in the second half, but the Rec hit back straightaway through Jack Briscoe.

Brandon Kane was the first ‘Sedge player to be sent off before Kieran Scargill put Athersley in front for the first time.

Tom Jackson’s red card then gave ‘Sedge a mountain to climb. However Rhys Davies popped up with an unlikely equaliser.

Popular striker Mark Simpson was the hero for Garforth Town with his 40th goal for the club

Parkgate manager Graham Nicholas had a grin on his face until Mark Simpson equalised for Garforth

Mark Simpson secured a point for Garforth Town in the 1-1 draw at their old manager Graham Nicholas’ Parkgate.

Parkgate should have blown Garforth away in the first half, but they missed chance after chance and were only able to register Ben Thornton’s audacious lob on the score-sheet.

The Miners came out for the second half more determined and after a period of pressure, Russ Headley’s cross was converted from close range by Simpson. The goal, Simpson’s 40th for the club, sent the Garforth fans running up and down the terraces in celebration.

The last half-an-hour was fairly end-to-end. Lee Turner had Garforth’s best chance to win it, while in the dying seconds, Miners goalkeeper Paul Hagreen had to make a superb save to stop a goal-bound effort.

Handsworth Parramore lost 1-0 at AFC Mansfield.

  1. Shame you forgot your camera the week before James when we won garforth 3-1 , Graham’s grin has lasted all week! Shame the same couldn’t have been said for yours! (Wish I had a camera ) What happened to your match report on that game by the way? I was looking forward to reading it??

  2. It was a fair result today , however only 1 point from the 2 game against Parkgate is less than was expected , albeit they are an improving team ,

  3. You are doing a great job with this site mr grayson… sad that these people have to be critical for no reason….perhaps they ought to look at there own achievements over the last 12 months !

    1. I have good reason Amara, mr Grayson has had a lot to say about my husband for the past twelve months! Nothing complimentary and all his own views which he insists on sharing with the world like anyone cares! He was at both Garforth games over the Christmas period and beacause garforth lost decide not to submit a full match report but instead slumped in a corner sulking , and he claims to be a neutral reporter ! I doubt the same would have occurred had parkgate lost. So yes i do feel the need to comment!

  4. Sarah I think you need to calm down, graham hasn’t done a very good job in his previous roles and has a lot to prove in the non league game. I’m sure mr Grayson is a neutral observer with no malice towards anyone.

    1. No comments
Sarah just ignore it,don’t step down to his level. Graham can’t please them all,he did good job at Garforth before he left Garforth and he moved on to improve him self.
and Garforth is good family club we did well and we had enough point and good management team and supporter to stay up.
Just read Andrew marsh report he is fair.
It is only game of football.
Good luck to everyone the fan not stupid they know the fact.

  5. First of all, James if you’re going to write articles you need to take a neutral stance, there are times where you only report on things that suit you. Sarah is completely right in her first comment, I guarantee had Garforth won at home to Parkgate you’d have wrote a full match report.

Secondly stop holding on to the past, Graham Nicholas has done nothing wrong and for the last 12 months you have done nothing but slate him. If you haven’t got anything nice to say then don’t say anything.

When Graham left Garforth, he was moving onto challenge himself at the next level and you can’t hold that against him. As a player myself you want to compete and test yourself at the highest level, whether that be as a player or a manager, so James stop holding a grudge against Graham for testing himself at the next level. In response to Amara and Brissy’s comments, Yes it may not have worked out for Graham (this time) at Ossett but he is a great manager and doesn’t have anything to prove at non-league level. Every manager even at the top level goes through tough periods, just look at the likes of Pardew. At the end of 2015 Palace were in the top half of the Prem but a year later they were struggling at the bottom. Graham definitely has the ability to succeed as a manager at Ossett’s level if given another opportunity and time.

I myself have played in the NCEL Prem and for Garforth (not under Graham). It is a great club and well ran. In terms of football you can never take away from how well Graham performed there and the success he had. He’s a great manager and has definitely been the most successful manager they have had in recent times, the stats during his time in charge speak for themselves. Also knowing players who have played under Graham they have nothing but good things to say about him.

Finally just look at the progress Parkgate have made under Graham. 10 Weeks ago when he took over they were rooted to the bottom of the table with only 1 point and nobody would have said they had a chance of survival, yet now you’d say they are one of the teams with the better chance of staying up come the end of the season, just look at the form table. Having seen highlights of both games against Garforth, Parkgate definitely deserved to come away with 4 points. I think it is time James Grayson puts the past behind him, gets off Graham’s back and actually gives him credit for the good job he is doing.

  6. Thank you Mo and Anon!!! Comments don’t bother Graham , thank fully he stays focused on what job he has to do so I intend to not to let them bother me. I’ve said my bit and time will tell how good he is!

  7. James ignore the pencil warriors. God for bid you attend a match and not report on it and go just to enjoy a football match. Thank you to you and your mum for helping out that day at Garforth when we were short of help and you both stepped into help even though others think otherwise.

Please keep up the good work with the site as I enjoy reading your articles and keeping us updated with what is happening in the world of non league

  8. I have no doubts that Graham is a good manager ,he did a decent job at Garforth , admittedly things have not gone well for him since then , but the evidence is there that he is turning things around at Parkgate ,i said my piece when Graham left Garforth , so am not going down that road again ,at some point you have to let bygones be bygones , and indeed me and him have had a natter the last few times at games .

  9. It says a lot about the man when his wife is fighting his battles online!! Shame no one seems to mention the illegal approaches he does for players via Facebook text etc. Maybe he should concentrate on getting the basics right.

  10. I don’t like what The Times reports on. So I don’t read it. I don’t presume to contact the reporters and critisise their choice of topics (because surprise, they probably don’t care). If you don’t like the articles on here don’t read them. If you don’t like my comment don’t contact me to let me know because I don’t care. Neither should you James. Your website, your journalism. Take it is a compliment.

  11. I love the comment from Sarah moaning about James “sharing his views with the world like anyone cares” you obviously do as it’s not like he is coming round to your house to post his articles or paying for it to be in Heat magazine or whatever bored housewives read. You are following his site on Facebook or going on his website so you obviously do care 🙂

  12. Cozz, for your information anonymous is not Graham I just didn’t want to reveal my identity. I don’t even know Graham personally but I know what has happened and quite frankly i’m sick of the undeserved flack James has directed towards him since he left Garforth.

  13. Football fans are protective about their club , imo Graham treated Garforth Town poorly when he left , coming back for numerous players , this should not be allowed , no one begrudges players or managers wanting to better themselves , but you should leave in the correct manner , we only escaped relegation by 3 points , and you could say that the points gained under Graham went a long way to ensuring our league place , it’s taken a long time for Garforth to rebuild again , but under Rob Hunter it’s looking decent. Soz i know I said wasn’t going to comment again
