Resurgent Worsbrough Bridge edged closer to securing survival with a third consecutive league victory.

Young Ossett Albion dual-registered attacker Tom Guest’s ninth minute goal was enough for Bridge to beat Glasshoughton Welfare in a match that was delayed because of floodlight problems.

You have go back to the great days under Chris Hilton for the last time that Worsbrough won more than two games on the spin. Bridge won four consecutive league matches in March 2014, the last being the very famous victory at Shaw Lane when Adam Podmore scored the winner.

The Glasshoughton win means Worsbrough are ten points clear of second bottom Westella & Willerby, who have two games-in-hand. The sides also have to play each other.

For Welfare, it was easily their worst display of the season. Indeed home keeper Aiden Tyas would hardly have needed his kit washing after the game

The home side opened brightly and put the welfare goal under constant pressure although at the other end Simon Chadburn did well to block Nathan Keightley as he looked to break away. Keightley also put a shot well over the bar before the home side took the lead on 10 minutes. Shoddy play on the Welfare right saw the ball fall to Tom Guest who ran on and fired into the bottom far corner past Jordan Bradshaw.

Just after this Glasshoughton’s Ryan Poskitt broke away on the left but his final ball into the area was cleared away.

Keightley was blocked out again by good defending and just before the interval Bradshaw did well to collect a Rob Oldham free-kick under his crossbar.

The second half was a poor affair and although welfare huffed and puffed they were struggling to put two passes together.

The home side were not much better and although they forced three corners in quick succession Bradshaw was hardly troubled. The only danger to home keeper Tyas was a Conor Glavin shot which sailed over and then with virtually last kick of the game Poskitt also hit over.
