Hall Road Rangers 4-0 Brigg Town
An Ash Dexter double helped Hall Road Rangers to a comprehensive win against Brigg Town at Haworth Park, increasing the tension at the top of the table.
From Sam Belcher’s third minute half volley, Rangers were always in the driving seat. Those in attendance were not waiting long to witness the opening goal of the contest.
With just eight minutes on the clock visiting keeper Danny Waring poorly punched clear a cross from the right and Joe Cooper cleverly looped the ball over the beleaguered keeper and into the net.
Waring redeemed himself eight minutes later though when he got down well to save a bullet header from Rangers captain Dexter at the near post.
Hall Road created more chances, Dexter headed over Chris Spinks’s cross and Gareth Owen dragged wide after cutting in from the left.
The sides went in at the break with just one goal the difference. That was until twelve minutes into the second half. Chris Spinks stepped up to pile-drive the ball into the bottom left corner from nearly 25 yards from a free kick to double Hall Road’s advantage.
Spinks first goal in nine games, and his 23rd of the season. A minute later the hosts superiority was further underlined as Spinks this time turned provider. He drifted in a corner and Dexter was on hand to power home his header from inside the area.
The hosts continued to show their ruthless edge, Waring denied Spinks, before the former Westella striker drilled another free kick wide. With ten minutes still to go though skipper Dexter grabbed his second of the afternoon carefully placing his header into the bottom corner.
In the dying moments Hall Road were unlucky not to add a fifth but brave defending on their own goal line was academic as Rangers recorded a badly needed three points ahead of their midweek trek to Teversal on Tuesday night.
