Dodworth Miners Welfare 4-0 Worsbrough Bridge
Worsbrough Bridge suffered a bad start to their pre-season campaign as they were beaten at Sheffield & Hallamshire Senior League Division Two North champions Dodworth.
However, not too much can be read into the result. Worsbrough manager Josh Wright fielded two different teams in each half, many of being trialists.
Wright has also put his players through three gruelling fitness-based training sessions in the past week so there were bound to be a few tired legs.
It should also be mentioned that Dodworth had a strong team with former Ossett Town and Garforth Town defender Simon Rogers, plus ex-Shaw Lane danger man Danny Barlow, in their side.
Worsbrough started brightly, creating several openings. The likes of Joe Singleton, Jack Mawson, and new signing Matty Thompson appeared in the first half.
Dodworth grabbed their first goal close to half-time as Ryan Barlow reacted the quickest to a saved effort.
Worsbrough changed their side at the break. Familiar faces Connor Rollinson, Chris White, Kieran Thompson, Mark Stuart, plus several trialists, entered the fray. Matt Pinder also featured for the whole of the 45 minutes – his first proper football run-out since overcoming being struck down by the Guillain Barre Syndrome.
Unfortunately for Worsbrough it was a nightmare second half. Dodworth quickly killed them off with three goals. Two came from errors, while former Aquaforce man Barlow scored an excellent goal.
Ryan Pleasants wasted Worsbrough’s best chance late-on. He shot straight at the goalkeeper after being played clean through.
