Craig Elliott believes Shaw Lane AFC will continue sailing towards a bright future now that the ground-share deal with Athersley Rec has been signed, sealed and delivered.
The Ducks have a new long-term home at Athersley after having to leave the Shaw Lane complex which is home to Barnsley Rugby Union club.
Although delighted how the situation has played out, Elliott admits that it has made his summer recruitment difficult.
“I have been waiting for it all to get confirmed because it has been a frustrating time,” Elliott told Non League Yorkshire.
“We were trying to attract players while we weren’t sure where we were going to be playing.
“We have missed out on three or four players because of the uncertainty, but now we have somewhere we can call home.
“The future looks bright in terms of what we can do there and I think exciting times are ahead.”
Elliott has still been able to make a few keynote signings. Heavy-duty Non League players Damian Reeves, Chib Chilaka and Nicky Walker are among some of the new faces.
In the past 48 hours he has also added two youngsters, former Doncaster Rovers midfielder Matthew Davies and ex-Grimsby Town centre-back Cameron Hough.
And Elliott has not ruled out further signings.
“This pre-season has been a bit of a slog getting players in because of the ground situation,” he added.
“We’re still looking and talking to players so we’ll see what happens.”
