Trialists steer Garforth to victory

A Garforth Town team made up mostly of trialists eased to a 3-0 victory at York Premier League side Huntington.

Huntington were better side for most of the first half until former Selby and Glasshoughton man Ollie Maude’s long screamer gave Garforth the lead.

Sean Hunter doubled their advantage early in the second half before towering striker Adam Turner sealed the victory with a header from a fine Sam Leach assist.

Garforth manager Rob Hunter fielded few of his regulars from last season. Only Luke McCrum, Leach, Hunter, Turner and Ryan Donoghue were on show.

Fernando Mendes hit a hat-trick for Harrogate Railway, but Liam Gray’s men went down 7-3 at Harrogate Town.

On Wednesday night, Yorkshire Amateur staged a second half comeback to beat Hunslet Club 5-1. Ash Flynn got a hat-trick with Fernando Moke and Matty Dalton chipping in with the rest.

Knaresborough Town eased to a 4-1 victory at Pickering Town – Dominic Wilson, Fraser Lancaster, Steve Bromley and Ben Cohen struck.

Frickley Athletic won 6-0 at Athersley Rec. Steve Hopewell and Jacob Hazel got doubles, while Gavin Allott and Jameel Ible also got on the score-sheet.

Alex Lill hit four in Maltby Main’s 8-0 smashing of Boynton at St George’s Park.

Jake Day’s late winner secured a 3-2 win for Bridlington Town at Grimsby Borough.

AFC Emley went down 3-2 at Hall Green United, Campion lost 4-3 to Ossett Albion.

On Tuesday night, Mikey Dunn, Jordan Turner and Eli Hey earned Pontefract Collieries a 3-2 win at Rossington Main.

Glasshoughton Welfare lost 5-3 at Ilkley Town, while Scarborough Athletic won 2-0 at East Yorkshire Carnegie and Armthorpe Welfare were beaten 9-0 by Doncaster Rovers in front of nearly 800 people.
