Red hot Gary Collier hit a magnificent screamer for Armthorpe Welfare as he returned to one of his old haunts.

Collier hit two as Armthorpe eased to victory at Division rivals Selby Town. Young Jordan Emery got the other goal to help secure Armthorpe’s first victory during pre-season.

Armthorpe took the lead on 20 minutes when a corner was half cleared as far as Collier who hit a thunderbolt of a 22 yard volley which flew over goalkeeper Jonny Iveson.

Welfare went close eleven minutes later when Collier flicked on for evergreen Liam Radford to break clear, but he was denied by a good save from Iveson.

Half time saw Liam Copley replace Adam Stevens in goal and within two minutes he was in the thick of the action as he got down well to save Liam Flanagan’s penalty kick.

That was the closest that Selby came to getting back into the match. Armthorpe wrapped things up with two quick-fire goals close to the hour mark.

Radford sent Collier clear to slide the ball past the advancing Iveson to double Welfare’s advantage.

Soon it was 3-0 as Iveson blocked from Collier inside the box with the loose ball falling to Emery who planted the ball into the empty net from 18 yards.

In the dying minutes George Phillipson cut in from the Welfare left before firing an angled shot past Copley for Selby’s consolation goal.
