Penistone Church 3-4 Staveley Miners Welfare
Two poorly conceded second half goals consigned FA Cup heroes Penistone Church to a third straight league defeat.
The loss to injury of influential centre-backs Brett Lovell and Tom Brennan clearly are a big blow to Penistone, who could have avoided conceding three of the goals.
In an end-to-end first half, Tyla Bell finished well to give Staveley an early lead.
Young prodigy Nathan Keightley equalised with a cross that deceived Staveley’s goalkeeper on 30 minutes.
That was just before former Ossett Town striker Josh Schofield unleashed a worldie to propel Staveley back in front.
Duncan Richards would then supply the cross from the right for Keightley to head home at the back-post to score a second equaliser as half-time approached.
Two goals in the first 15 minutes of the second half effectively killed Penistone off.
A weak effort from distance from Robson Doolan somehow sneaked home for the third.
Schofield then blasted the fourth from close range. He won no points for his celebration though. Having slid on his knees in front of some Penistone fans, Schofield was left red-faced when he turned around and realised that none of his team-mates had followed him.
Church were given late hope as a corner found its way in the net – young Ryan Smith was given the credit for it.
