Stocksbridge Park Steels 4-0 Chasetown

Richard Stirrup battling during Stocksbridge’s recent 2-0 home defeat to Spalding

Richard Stirrup struck twice as Stocksbridge Park Steels climbed to third place courtesy of another high-scoring victory.

Although the four goal margin does not reflect the full story as the Steels were not at their best, especially in the first half.

Stocksbridge rode their luck, in particular when goalkeeper David Reay made an error and Chasetown’s Ryan Wynter hit the post.

That was as good as Chasetown’s night got as Stirrup then went and placed them in front.

The Steels pulled clear with three fairly quick-fire second half goals. Stirrup went past an on-rushing Chasetown goalkeeper Curtis Pond to add the second.

Rory Coleman’s magnificent delivery from a free kick ended with Matt Reay heading home.

Tom Charlesworth then sent in a fine cross from the right for the main man Joe Lumsden to score from at the back-post.

The Steels were poor at the end as Chasetown created several chances. Only two brilliant saves from Reay maintained their clean sheet.
