Jonny Irving broke the hearts of resurgent Nostell Miners Welfare who were leading 3-1 at one point in their draw at promotion-chasing Eccleshill United.

Former Athersley Rec defender Dec Welford sounded the warning noises that Nostell were going to be no pushovers with his header early on.

That was cancelled out by Matty Stor’s equaliser.

Nostell were unfazed and the Showman Ryan Poskitt lived up to his nickname, on his Nostell debut, with a superb strike to place his new side in front. The goal was his second against Eccleshill in two straight games as his final touch for Glasshoughton was the 40-yard screamer three weeks ago.

Confidence oozed from Simon Houghton and Jason Dodsworth’s side and the phantom attacker Jack Owen was presented with a simple tap-in.

Eccleshill’s hopes were raised through Antony Brown’s goal.

The equaliser soon followed and Irving grabbed it with a smart header.

Eccleshill pushed for the winner and Nostell goalkeeper Aiden Tyas earned a few plaudits with a couple of saves.

The only downside for Nostell was the dismissal of Billy Mole following a late lunge on Andy Cooper.
