FA Vase
Craig Parry insists that there is “no Wembley talk” as FA Vase heroes Pontefract Collieries prepare for the biggest game in their history.
The Colls, now in their 60th year, are three rounds away from Wembley if they win their fourth round tie at 1874 Northwich on Sunday.
Pontefract, the only NCEL side left in the competition, have scored over 100 goals this season with an attacking style of play and Parry says his side won’t be resting on their laurels.
“We’re going into the game looking forward to it, we’re under no-illusions how tough it will be,” Parry told Non League Yorkshire.
“Northwich are a very good side who are scoring goals for fun. But like every game we go out there with a smile on our faces and we play one way and one way only – that’s getting at teams and attacking them.
“It will be no different on Sunday. There’s no Wembley talk. It is about going into every game and enjoying it.
“If we win it is great for the club, great PR for the club. We’re on a great journey and we’ll keep going.
“The club is in great shape, it really is. Behind the scenes it is really strong and everyone is working really hard.
“The facilities are improving all the time so we’re in great shape.”
Parry’s Pontefract also remain in pursuit of the league title – much to the surprise of a lot of people.
But with FA Vase commitments and postponements piling up, Parry admits it could be a testing few months.
“We took notice of a few things early doors when people had us down as relegation fodder,” he said.
“We’re working hard and things are working for us. What isn’t helping is that games keep stacking up and we’ve also got injuries and suspensions.
“We’re going to be now playing Saturday-Tuesday and possibly Thursday. We have already gone into games with 13 or 14 players.
“It could come back to bite us, but we’ll get on with it.”
The Vase tie is being played at Witton Albion at 3pm on Sunday.
