FA Vase
1874 Northwich 3-1 Pontefract Collieries
The Wembley dream for Pontefract Collieries is over after they were knocked out after losing at 1874 Northwich on Sunday.
There was real hope with 20 minutes remaining when Mark Whitehouse sweetly fired the Colls level with an expertly-taken free kick in front of over 600 people.
But two late goals from Scott McGowan ended Pontefract’s dream of reaching the National Stadium.
Despite a really positive first half performance, the Colls found themselves a goal down at the break. The home side hit the ultimate sucker punch as Mark Jones scored deep into first half injury-time.
Pontefract mounted pressure after the break with Kane Reece going close before Whitehouse levelled matters.
Eli Hey then went close for the Colls, but Northwich won it with two late goals.
It brought an exceptional and record breaking run to an end, but the Colls should not be disappointed. The Vase run is surely just the start of a glorious period of history for the club because of the exciting plans for the future.

Up the colls
From a supporter’s point of view – Fabulous season especially considering some had the Colls down as prime relegation material. Out of the FA Vase so just the league cup and the west riding county cup and winning the league to concentrate on now!
